I've been curious about this for a little while now. Which vehicle with three rows of seats has the best fuel economy?
The Honda Odyssey seems to average 22 mpg:
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Can anything with three rows best that?

Tesla Model S P85D with the rear jump seats. Beat that. :)

The 2015 Transit Connect is rated at 22 city, 30 highway.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport with FWD and the 4-cylinder averages 27, but the third row is completely useless.
For something with a third row you can actually use, best I can think of is the Mazda5 at 24.

Fuel?

Combined, that's still lower than the Odyssey.

Combined, I think you might have the winner so far: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/PowerSearc…

Outlander, CR-V, RAV-4, they all seem to get around 29 combined.

Oh man, I'd be all over that like white on rice. Except the price. My wife knows I want one, but given that we're renting, and have a baby on the way, a house is a bit higher up on the priority list.

Not bad... not bad.

But it isn't one. You are forgetting that awesome factor. It isn't a minivan, it also is not a bigass Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban-mama-mobile. Plus with the ecoboost and a few slight tunes: (Okay, this one has a lot done to it but there are some other tunes with simply intakes and ecu mod that net something near 380hp)

Reverse the priority list. ;)
(Kidding, of course!)

Suzuki Carry/Bedford-Vauxhall Rascal/Daewoo Damas/Maruti Omni. Depending on market, 3 or *four* rows of seats. Some markets still have it new, other markets like the US can import it under the 25 year rule.
Nearly 40 MPG.

If a Tesla is too rich you can still go electric:

The answer is always B-body.
The '91-96 Chevrolet Caprice/Buick Roadmaster/Olds Custom Cruiser wagons are easily capable of 25mpg combined when equipped with the 5.0L LO3 V8 or the 4.3L L99 V8.
The window sticker for the '92 Caprice wagon with the 5.7L LO5 V8 was rated at 16 city, 25 highway.
The middle and back seats both fold flat to provide they most spacious load floor this side of a pickup truck or a Transit work van with the super-long chassis.
You can smuggle people in it, in the back seat footwell.
The tailgate has double-acting hinges, so it can swing to the side or fold down.

I had a 2010 Outlander with a third row. And I thought they added one to the ass end of the CR-V when they bloated it.....
![]() 11/24/2014 at 15:41 |

I don't think the CR-V ever had a 3rd row, but I thought the outlander might have.

You're right. I thought they added it to compete with the RAV-4, but I guess not in the US.

My parents had a 1980 Buick LeSabre wagon. I'd hope that there would be something out there now - 30+ years later that would be able to offer better fuel economy.
![]() 11/24/2014 at 16:07 |

Not really. B-body is still best body.

Not too shabby. Pretty hefty sticker price, though. Here's to hoping tons of people buy them so there will be lots floating around the used market in a few years...

Mazda 5, the only minivan that's actually mini.
